Brooklyn Trail Builders

The Brooklyn Trail Builders (BTB) efforts are headed up by Craig Starnes, Kev O'Donnell, Andrew Jackson, Rob Lee, Ant Bradshaw and Chris Wells.

They’re the team behind all the work in this area including Transient, Car Parts, Highbury Fling, Car Parts Extension, Windmill, Ikigai, Serendipity and Rollercoaster.

They operate in Waimapihi Reserve (formerly known as Polhill Reserve); and are currently building a new Grade 4 descending trail in the adjacent Te Kopahou Reserve.

The Clinical and Ikigai  trails allow for a Grade 3, 7km loop. Car Parts and Ikigai (an MTB priority descending trail) allows for a complete descent from the Brooklyn wind turbine to Aro Street. Ongoing planning is underway for new trails down to and up from the south coast. Along with trail building and maintenance BTB also plant around 2500 native trees per year; help facilitate predator control; and remove rubbish/invasive weeds in the area.

BTB supports and admires the work carried out by Ngā Kaimanaaki o Te Waimapihi, and the Aro Street based Garage Project brewery. BTB’s work would not be possible without the support and assistance from Wellington City Council, Wellington Marathon Clinic, Forest and Bird Wellington’s plant nurseryBrooklyn Primary School and, of course, all the fantastic volunteers who give up their time and energy helping build and maintain the trails; plant trees and trap pests. A true community effort!
